My life’s journey is finding creative outlets to best fit who I am. The earliest creative memory I can remember was at age 6 when I started designing dresses which my grandmother made for me. My talents then shifted to jewelry making. My aunt had a blow torch and a kiln and we made our own glass beads. Then followed the era of T-shirt and tennis shoe decorating of course. You can’t grow up in the 80’s without having everything you own personalized.
My first job as a floral designer allowed me to express myself in a whole new way. It was then I also learned my love for working with the client one on one. I enjoyed listening to them describe who the flowers were for, how they felt and what was the occasion. This information would help me to incorporate their feelings into a perfect arrangement.
I’ve evolved creatively through the years venturing into new expressive categories. Fashion design, jewelry making, photography, ceramics, floral design, and interior design were all building blocks to my work on canvas. As we all know, being an artist doesn’t always pay the bills, so after college I took a job at a major art supply manufacturer. Getting in the door wasn’t easy, but thanks to experience with my mother’s craft company as an instructor and demo artist, they took me in. After my first year as an assistant brand manager I was rewarded my own product line to develop. The next few years gave me the foundation and confidence to create Playa Art.
Playa Art started after I realized my own frustrations in trying to find the best art to fit my home and personal style. After time and money wasted, I decided to create my own art pieces for our empty lifeless walls. My husband and I love to host parties at our home and I was very pleased to see the excitement on everyone’s faces when they saw our home’s new look. I started to create artwork for the homes of friends and family and then took the big leap of doing what I love full time.
